There are many distractions on the platform. “Are we playing in time?,” “Don’t forget that extra bar before the second verse,” “I can’t hear. I thought we worked this out during the sound check. Hey, Sound Man, over here, look here,” “What song is coming next? This song is ending and I can’t remember what song I planned to do next!,” “Is this the last song? What time is it? What time were we supposed to be done?” You get the picture.

In spite of all of the logistics, to lead worship effectively it’s important that you stay in the moment.

Pray during your set and pay attention. Pay attention to the lyrics, pay attention of the emotions expressed, pay attention to the Holy Spirit within you. And be willing to take a detour from your plan.
