Among my favorite memories of childhood is staying up until 10:00 to watch reruns of The Andy Griffith Show. Dad and I were big fans and many times we would watch in his bedroom where I would lie between Mom and him. The show was strengthened by fantastic writing and southern characters that we knew all too well. I was mesmerized by such a simple time and warm community. And man, was it funny! Dad and I would laugh out loud while Mom rolled her eyes and shook her head. By the time Andy made things right in Mayberry, my dad would have his hairspray pulled out (don’t ask), Mom would be asleep, and I felt safe, secure, and happy. Rest in peace, Ange. Rest in peace.
