Do you think I came to smooth things over and make everything nice? Not so. I’ve come to disrupt and confront! – Jesus, as told in Luke 12 (The Message)
Today at The Table we reflected on this challenging passage where Jesus says he did not come to bring peace, but division. We also read from Hebrews 11 the account of many who, after responding to the good news of Jesus, found themselves the object of persecution. It is not the desire of God that humanity be divided or that anyone be persecuted, but Jesus is describing the reality that although He does offer peace, the world does not want it on His terms. Our response is not to fret, but rather “fix our eyes” on Him and “run the race” before us. This was our set.
