The ultimate goal of leading worship is that others worship God. This goal is practically impossible to qualify. In the end, it is up to each individual as to whether they worship God or not. But our relationship and connection with them, as demonstrated by our worship leadership, will make it easier for them to worship. Perhaps this the worship leader’s greatest concern: are we making it easy for others to worship? Are we giving our people tools or distractions? Are our expectations clear or confusing?
Over the course of this series on worship leadership, I have proposed that an effective worship leader:
- Leads out of relationship
- Seeks presence over production
- Creates breathing room
- Recognizes that leadership comes from the top
- Stays in the moment
- Gives grace for mistakes
- Is the first one in the water
