Everlasting Arms — the songwriter’s notebook

Happy new year, everyone.  I’m starting a new series today.  I’m calling it “the songwriter’s notebook.”  Here’s the idea.  I’ll video myself singing a song that I’m working on.  You leave your comments below.  I read your comments as I ponder the future of the song.  Note that these are not professional recordings and will very likely contain mistakes.  This will be great for me as it throws down the gauntlet for me to keep writing.  If it brightens your day as well, so much the better.

With that being said, here’s the first one that I’ll roll out.  It’s a hymn arrangment of “Leaning on the Everlasting Arms” with a new chorus.  I call it simply “Everlasting Arms.”  I hadn’t thought of this hymn in a long time until 2000 when my grandmother passed away.  She was a church musician steeped in old gospel hymns such as this. As I sat in the church pew during her memorial service, I began to create this arrangement.  If you want to see the words, download the Everlasting Arms Lyric.

Alright, that’s it.  What do you think?

Heard Everlasting Arms for the first time at a Ladies’ Conference this week-end. I loved it. Thank you so much for incorporting the new lyrics with such a greatly loved and familiar hymn!

Thank you so much, Shara. And what Ladies’ Conference was it?

It was a Love Out Loud Conference in Greenville, TX sponsored by the Southern Baptists of Texas Women’s Ministry.

I love it. I can hear some cool grooving perc in the background. I too, am leaning on His everlasting arms.
