Happy New Year, dear reader.  May 2011 bring you health, prosperity, and loving community!  For the last several years, I’ve taken Dan Miller‘s advice to write down goals for the coming year.  I recommend you do too.  It’s great to have hopes and ideas, but there’s something about writing the ideas down and seeing them in black and white to inspire the actions needed for the accomplishment.

My template (that I probably got from Dan origianlly) breaks the goals down into seven areas of life:  Career, Financial, Physical, Personal Development, Family, Spiritual, and Social.

When I remember, I try to review this document in the middle of the year to see how I’m doing.  The end of the year is a natural time to do this too.  The last half of 2010 has been a trying year to be sure.  Nonetheless, I’m encouraged by the goals that I set that were accomplished.

  • Growing LifeWayWorship.com.  I don’t work for LifeWay any longer, but I’m proud of the work that I (and the rest of my team) did there on this website, which was still growing year over year when I left.
  • To be able to run a half marathon.  I’ve been fairly consistent in my running schedule this year (we won’t talk about the holidays!).  I ran a couple of 5-ks and a 10-k.  I’m ready and have signed up for the 2011 Music City half marathon.  Bring it.
  • I met my weight goal this summer.  I blew it later in the year.  See why it’s good to look at the list in June?
  • Have an original song at LifeWayWorship.comBe Glorified.  It’s up!
  • To go on an international missions trip with my daughter.  Thanks to many of you, this happened in July.
  • Potty-train our toddler.  Woo-hoo!
  • Get a dog.  Hello, Buckeye the WonderDog.
  • Go camping with the family.  We had a great time on two different trips to Fall Creek Falls State Park.

Download my Life Goals template and write down your own goals.

Question:  How was 2010 for you?  What are your hopes for the new year?
