This weekend, I have the opportunity to attend NSAI’s Advanced SongCamp. I’ve been focusing on country songwriting in preparation for this. I wrote Lucky One with my longtime friend Philip Morlan. When we first met to write, he was thinking about how we, especially men, allow our careers to define our worth. He wanted to write about a guy whose self-esteem was not affected by a job layoff. (I just can’t imagine what inspired him to think this). We started with lyrics like “who I am is not determined by the job I do.” We ended up a little less heady (I hope). This is “Lucky One.” Enjoy.
Over to you: I’d love your input
