… in Him all things hold together. – The Apostle Paul in the book of Colossians (NIV)

Today is Christ the King Sunday, which places an emphasis on the lordship and rule of Jesus. Leigh reminded us that His lordship transfers us out of death and into life. This was our set.

  • Walk-in 1: You are My King (Amazing Love) (Billy Foote)
  • Walk-in 2: You are Holy (Prince of Peace) (Imboden / Rhoton)
  • Crown Him with Many Crowns (Bridges / Elvey)
  • He Reigns (Furler / Taylor)
  • Offertory: Here is our King (David Crowder)
  • Doxology: to the tune of “All Creature of our God and King”
  • Sanctus: Holy, Holy, Holy (Brian Darnell)
  • Communion: Indescribable (Story / Reeves)
  • King of Glory (Tomlin / Reeves)

This will actually be first time planning worship for the Advent / Christmas season. Our church makes a real distinction between Advent and Christmas. They don’t want to sing anything like Joy to the World or O Come All Ye Faithful until after 12/25. I didn’t grow up in churches that did this, so I’m still learning. Advent songs (as opposed to Christmas songs) are pretty hard to find. I’ll focus on the hymns O Come, O Come Emmanuel and Come Thou Long Expected Jesus. I found this other hymn, Thy Kingdom Come, O God (http://www.hymnary.org/text/thy_kingdom_come_o_god_thy_reign) that I’d like to do, but haven’t found an arrangement yet that will work for us.

I have a friend who sings and plays the harp with the Jackson, TN symphony. She goes by the name Timbre (http://timbre.bandcamp.com/album/silent-night). She’s joining us on the 22nd. She has a dreamy, Enya-like quality. I’m looking forward to that.

I have the new Paul Baloche Christmas record, but haven’t started digging into it yet. How about you? What are you planning?

It’s hard to believe we begin a new liturgical year next Sunday. Any new Advent music on your radar?
