Earlier this spring I was working on a scene for the Nashville Acting Studio with fellow actor Hannah Renee Jackson. During our after-rehearsal conversation she recommended this book. I’m glad she did.
Author and renown acting coach Ivana Chubbuck outlines a thorough technique for actors to tap into the emotional realities of your character. The Chubbuck acting technique includes determining the objective of the character, choosing a substitution for the other character, and developing an inner monologue.
This was not a quick read for me (took me five months) as I would read only as much as I could implement at one time. It is an entertaining read however, with great examples from her Hollywood teaching studio throughout. The Power of the Actor is the best book on the acting craft that I’ve come across and is one to read over and over again.
