I was home today working on some music for Sunday. My six-year old son has a hard time understanding that I’m still “at work,” even though I’m in the living room. “Daddy, can you come jump on the trampoline?” he asks in the early afternoon. “That sounds like fun, but I can’t right now. I’m working,” I reply. I watch through the kitchen window as he heads out the back door by himself to the trampoline. … Five minutes, I think to myself. I can spare five minutes. And I did. My older son joined us and we jumped and fell and laughed. It was among the best five minutes of my day. It’s important and hard to take time to stop and play. It’s also important to stop and be grateful. Here’s my list for the week.
- A surprise snow and chance to sled
- Magic Schoolbus exhibit at Adventure Science Center
- Lunches and meetings with friends, colleagues, and professionals
- Steal-of-a-deal juicer. (Now, if I can just figure out what to put in it)
- Idea swap and fellowship of other homeschooling parents
- For the first time in our marriage, finally getting to watch the Super Bowl in our own house
- Stable weather and sunshine
